EasyFamilyKata ("we", "our", or "us") is a family financial management application developed by Talha Noor as a Final Year Project. The app allows family heads and members to manage budgets, track expenses, and receive AI-powered financial guidance.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

• Email address (used for login and account identification)
• Username / display name
• User role (Family Head or Family Member)
• Family code (used to link family members together)

2.2 Financial Data

• Monthly income and budget amounts you enter
• Category budgets (e.g. Groceries, Travel, Food, Utilities)
• Expense records including name, category, and amount
• Opening and closing balances
• Member budget allocations

2.3 AI Assistant Interactions

• Messages you send to the AI financial assistant (chatbot)
• AI responses generated for your session

2.4 Device Information (Automatically Collected)

• Device type and operating system version (Android)
• App version number
• General error and crash logs (for debugging purposes only)

We do not collect your precise location, contacts, camera, microphone, or any biometric data.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the service: Display your budget, expenses, and financial insights within the app
• To enable family features: Link family heads and members using your family code
• To power AI insights: Send relevant financial data to our AI engine to generate personalised suggestions
• To improve the app: Analyse anonymised usage patterns and error logs to fix bugs and improve performance
• To authenticate you: Verify your identity when you log in

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sell it to any third party.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data only with:

4.1 OpenAI

Your AI assistant messages and relevant financial context (budget totals, expense summaries) are sent to OpenAI to generate responses. OpenAI processes this data under their own Privacy Policy. We send the minimum data necessary to answer your question.

4.2 Our Backend Infrastructure

Our backend API is hosted on Hugging Face Spaces. Data transmitted to and from the app passes through our FastAPI server. All communication uses HTTPS (encrypted in transit).

4.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority.

5. Data Storage and Security

• All data is stored in our secure backend database (NeonDB — PostgreSQL)
• All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
• Passwords are never stored in plain text — we use secure authentication tokens (JWT)
• Access to your financial data is role-restricted — family members can only see their own data, and the family head can see family-wide data

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion:

• Your account and personal information will be deleted within 30 days
• Your financial records (budgets, expenses) will be permanently removed
• AI chat history is session-based and not permanently stored

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data
• Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
• Objection: Object to how we process your data

8. Children's Privacy Important

EasyFamilyKata is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with their information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

EasyFamilyKata uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
